From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

I make my ajing rigs at home. At the fishing spot, it is just a matter of connecting them with clip snaps and swivels.

I fish only in strong current, so I use a separate sinker.

The components

  • Main line: mainly #0.4 ester line; see the line-size note below.
  • Sinker: usually 3–6 g.
  • Hooks: Split Shotter #6 for thicker soft lures and #8 for slim ones.
  • Hook leader: size #1, 50 cm long.
  • Intermediate leader: 50 cm of #1.5 fluorocarbon, joined with a Seaguar knot.

Ready to connect

I change sinkers frequently, so there is a swivel above the sinker and a clip snap below it.

The soft lure is already threaded onto the hook as part of a prepared rig, with a mini swivel at the other end of its 50 cm leader. That swivel connects to the clip snap beneath the sinker.

Everything can be detached.

Line-size note: the Japanese original writes “ester 4 gō”. This is interpreted here as #0.4, consistent with the author’s related ester-line article and its spool photograph, and with SUNLINE’s 2018 ajing-line range. The missing decimal is an editorial interpretation, not an author-confirmed correction. The #1 and #1.5 leader sizes are retained exactly as written; only the intermediate leader is explicitly identified as fluorocarbon in the source.
