From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

After trying several combinations, my personal conclusion was that PE #0.06 works best with a titanium tip.

Thinking about why, I suspect it comes from the material of the tip itself. It is sensitive, but a bite feels softer and more fluid than it does through carbon: delicate, without a hard-edged response.

So I want the line to add a direct, crisp sensation. It also needs to be extremely fine. My current choice is Armored F+ Pro in PE #0.06.

Ester #0.2 also works with a titanium tip. Bite sensitivity is good, but the delicacy has a slightly slippery quality to it. I also wonder about lifting out a fish over 30 cm; I normally lift fish up to around 37 cm.

Of course, with PE you feel very little unless you keep tension in the line. Ester has the advantage of letting me sense a bite, vaguely, even with lighter tension.

For that reason, I find ester easier to use in many situations with a solid-carbon tip.

These are entirely personal impressions. Preferences vary, and everyone is free to choose the combination they enjoy.
