I called this a discovery of the best way to fish a strong incoming current. The results speak for themselves: at this particular place, it was overwhelmingly effective.

The combination is a 5 g metal jig and a 0.4 g jighead. This is different from a jig-sabiki rig. Use only a front assist hook on the metal jig to reduce tangles. Naturally, a very small swivel is part of the preparation to prevent line twist.

Cast straight into the current coming towards you. Let it sink for about five seconds, then begin.

Lift gently, let it ease down, and repeat. I do not pause to create a take, nor do I slowly drag it through. When a bite comes, I wait a fraction of a second for the committed take. That is the first moment I stop raising and lowering the rod. When it feels right, I strike.

Often, the fish grabs so hard from the outset that there is almost no need to strike.

Roughly 70–80% take the soft lure, and 20–30% the metal jig.

  • Line: Armored F+ Pro PE #0.2.
  • Leader: Seaguar Grandmax #1.
  • Soft lure: Aji Adder Pro, Hissatsu Clear.
  • Jighead: TICT Ajista, size S, 0.4 g.

That jighead is a consistently good performer for me.
