From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

News from T Island’s fast-current ajing spot, Tuesday the 12th of April.

Oka… from Aso had gone with an acquaintance. His report was, remarkably, no fish at all—for either of them.

Me: “What? Surely not. You must be joking…”

Oka… explained that K, a very good angler, had been there too. K had said, “They were biting until just recently, but now they have stopped.”

“So it was not just me!”

Hmm. What could be going on?

My wife brought out her notes from the previous year. Yes, something similar seemed to have happened then too. The note said: “Just one fish—unbelievable.”

We would go the following week and see for ourselves.

Missing the familiar faces

Recently, we have hardly seen the regulars, and I miss them.

K once gave us a red sea bream over 80 cm long that he had caught while ajing.

K, thank you again for that. We enjoyed eating it very much!
