From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

I had gathered quite a few ajing rods specifically for this spot on T Island in Amakusa.

Yet catches had been declining through the year, and lately the fishing had become difficult in all sorts of ways.

It was during that period that we found a new spot on Nogama Island. These days, we often fish for aji there with eging rods—rods originally intended for squid—in the fast current.

Fortunately, we enjoyed a run of excellent catches. But the Nogama spot we fish is shallow.

What would happen when it became colder?

Sure enough, a few days ago our catch fell to one-third of what it had been.

As the temperature drops further, perhaps even the aji will feel chilled to the bone in that shallow, rushing water…

Maybe we would be better off going all the way to Ushibuka. I am thinking it over.
