From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

It arrived earlier than expected.

A very tight joint

When I tried to assemble the rod, the joint between sections #1 and #2 was tight. Tighter than anything I had encountered before. It would barely go in.

It would only fit together far enough to leave about 4 cm exposed. I wanted it to go in at least another 1.5 cm or so.

So I decided to polish it carefully, starting with 10,000 grit.

That was slow going, so I moved to 8,000 grit. I worked cautiously, checking the fit several times, and eventually got it to fit as I wanted.

Finally, I went over it once more with 10,000 grit to finish.

First impressions in the hand

Holding it, I still thought it felt very good indeed.

Its lightness and balance were easily good enough for use as an ajing rod.

Our ceiling opens up above this space, so I could stand the rod upright and look at it. I gave it a small swing.

Yes. Very nice.

The reel was a Daiwa Tatula LT2500S-XH, which I considered excellent value.

It looked as though I would be able to go fishing within a week.
