From Passionable Fishing, our Japanese-language journal.

8 November 2022, beneath the bridge at Nogama. A cutlassfish four fingers deep—a Japanese angler’s way of describing its body depth.

I was using ester line with a No. 0.8 leader. There was no jighead: the rig had a 3 g sinker, a Split Shotter #8 hook, and a 34 Chimera Bait soft lure. The rod was a Yoihime Ten 54FL.

While exploring the deeper water, I hooked something.

It kept moving with a heavy pull. After about five to seven minutes, a long, silver body rose into view.

My wife netted it.
