I have acquired a Breaden 506 TS-tip, the titanium-tip rod described as “5.6 ft” in the original Japanese entry.
The setup and the first test
- Line: Armored F+ Pro, #0.06.
- Jigheads: 0.6 g and 0.8 g, fished without a separate weight.
There was some current, so I mainly used the 0.8 g jighead. With such an extremely fine line, I chose daylight for the first test.
There were no aji, but there were plenty of isaki—threeline grunt—around 20–25 cm, so we could put the setup through a proper fishing test. Between the two of us, we caught about 35 fish.
The rod worked wonderfully with #0.06.
The line connection
Before making the connection, I lubricate the line with a little oil from the side of my nose and double the PE. Doubling the line seems to be one of the methods used when joining lines for ayu fishing.
Ten wraps on the PE side and three on the fluorocarbon-leader side gave the strongest result in my tests. Without doubling the PE, I use a little over twenty wraps on that side; that also gave good results.
A very sensitive combination
The titanium tip paired with Armored F+ Pro #0.06 is extremely sensitive, although slack line needs to be taken up straight away.
With #0.1, I feel resistance in the water. The exceptionally fine #0.06 cuts through it very well.
Titanium tip plus PE #0.06: absolutely wonderful.
